The Trout Season opened on 18th March although the Coarse Fishing Season remains closed until 16th June. I so enjoy April, especially if the weather is as kind as it has been over recent weeks: everything along the river seems to be happy – from lambs gambolling in the field, the new growth of grass, blossoming and budding tress and bushes, birds pairing up and building their nests, add to that the River is in good health. There is as ever one thing missing: really active fish. It takes time for the trout to shake off their winter torpor whilst the coarse fish have breeding on their minds. So fishing is slow: the trout will not become really active until at least late April and we will have to wait until June for the Coarse Fish.
We will need more rain and can but hope that comes gently over a long period. When it does arrive and the river rises do be careful when you go fishing and enter the water.
We have another Work Party coming up this Easter Sunday 16th April – Sorry, if that impacts on your Easter break but please make your best efforts to join us. This will be a relatively easy Work Party without any really strenuous work as we clear a few minor instructions in the river and along its banks.
When you are out and about near the river, if you do see anything of interest or note please let a Management Group member know (through the Website) so we can take action if necessary.
