Well, it was cold, then not so cold, lots of snow then a little, wet and then very wet then not so wet: what is going on – you tell me – we are in April and whilst some days remind us that we are, others don’t. Someone told me Spring was on its way, officially its here, but sometimes you wonder? We will have to make the most of what we have and find enjoyment whilst fishing in challenging conditions – I’m sure you will. The River has of late been up and down like a YoYo and colouring or fining down just as rapidly. As we see warmer temperatures and increasing fly life the fish will become more active. That’s a promise. I have seen small hatches of olives as I walk the River and the fish are beginning to enjoy them on or just below the surface.
When the River has dropped to a reasonable level, it has of late looked in fine condition and our Kick Sampling Teams and River Monitor have confirmed this.
So before you get the sun lounger out and enjoy a cool drink in the garden of an evening, its time to take rod in hand and have some fun. Do please remember to keep a record of your fishing trips – it really is very important that we have a clear picture through Catch Returns so we can judge the health of the fish population. We will introduce a new system of Catch returns later this year but until then be prepared to let us know what you have caught, where and when. Thank you!
