Last month I reported that the River was at its lowest since we started to keep records. Following the storm that blew through overnight on Friday 9th November I walked the River on Sat 10th expecting to find damage and work that needed to be addressed. Strangely, there was very little. Recent rains have seen the River rise (the gauge at Damery Bridge showing 38 an increase of 11inches) and the flow is strong compared to the trickle of last month. The water is coloured and hiding the deeper holes waiting to embarrass the unwary fisherman.
Hopefully there is more rain on the way? The recent night frosts has perked up the Grayling and they appear more active. We will wait and see if we can find trout on the redds. Bank side vegetation is dying back quickly making access easier and there are still warm days to enjoy your fishing.
Please note the next Work Party on Sun 18th Nov when we will be re-building the footbridge at Middle Mill and doing some clearing up. Look forward to seeing you there.
